1. Toronto Romance Writers January meeting. This was awesome because I got to tell everyone in person that I sold my book. Not only that, I was able to meet fellow blogger Amy face to face (and yes we look different from our pictures) and meet a new blogger friend Vicky. I'll be posting pictures tonight. 2. Margaret Moore. Now that I'm home I'll have some more time to talk about Margaret's presentation Saturday. Not only did she remind me of the fundamentals of romance writing, she got me psyched up and ready to write again. Needless to say, she was amazing. 3. Meet old friends. I was able to catch up with a number of my friends from Waterloo, and was even able to have drinks with my critique partner Sue. The weather put a bit of a damper on my visits though and I wasn't able to see everyone for as long as I wanted. I'll have to plan better next time I'm up. 4. Time to edit. Sitting in my hotel room gave me an opportunity to get some serious editing done on All Bottled Up. I only have four more chapters to go and then I get to start round three of edits. That won't take nearly as long though. And then off to the publisher... 5. Missed my family. The hardest part of going away for business is being away from my family. By Wednesday morning I was pretty lonely and couldn't wait to get home that night. Traveling alone is...well, lonely. 6. Eragon. I found out long ago I can't write on the airplane. However, I was able to get a start on reading Eragon. Amazing book written by an amazing young man. I'm half way through and can't wait to finish it. 7. Eating out. My girls thought that I would love eating out every meal when I'm away. I hate it. I have a very sensitive stomach, and restaurant food kills me. Once in a while I'm fine. Every meal of every day...blah. 8. Sleep. I switched time zones which messed up my sleep pattern a bit. Not only that, I don't sleep well in hotel beds. They suck pretty much. So I died when I got home last night and was able to crawl into my comfy bed. Plus my husband was there - bonus! 9. Observations. It's funny how things look different to you when you're traveling. I constantly found myself watching people and things with new eyes. I'm not sure if this was because of the sleep deprivation, or because I'd been away for seven months, but everything looks different in that wow cool kind of way. It got me thinking about my setting in my story and the fact I was missing some of those types of reactions from my characters. I'll be layering those in during the next round of edits. 10. Elevators. I hate them. Whenever possible I take the stares. Elevators in hotels are the worst. 11. Eating Alone. Very depressing thing and I'm glad I didn't have to do it on this trip. 12. People who kick the airplane seat directly in front of them. Whoever you were - you suck. 13. Coming home. Being away makes you appreciate the things you have. I'm glad I'm back. It sounds like you had a great time, aside from all the eating out, the lack of sleep, and the seat-kicker on the plane. Trips are great, but as you said, coming home is always nice too.

Sounds like a good trip--except for the food, sleep, and whoever sat behind you on the plane. Somebody should invent an airline seat that, when it gets kicked, immediately reclines, squashing the offender until they promise to keep their feet to themselves. :)
Grrrr...on the people who kick the airplane seat in front of them! I hate that!
And for me...I like to travel alone if it's a short trip. I don't mind eating in restaurants alone--in fact, I love it. I bring a book and I get waited on...I love it!

I love staying in hotels alone. Probably because I don't get to do it often, but it is such a break not to have kids and hubby to pick up after. Watch what I want, read without someone saying "Mo-ommmm", and stay up / get up as late as I want!

I am glad that you made it home safe. I know for me it would be hard to be away from my family for that long ... you're a trooper. Especially, being away from those two adorable girls of yours!!

As crazy as it might be at home sometimes, it's those same things that have you home sick by the middle of any trip.

7-13 really stuck a chord with me. I have a terrible time sleeping while traveling unless we are staying with family.
BTW, I am trying to start up a book I started writing 10 years ago... I got discouraged and deleted it. Now I am regretting that, and trying to rewrite from memory is a real bummer! LOL

I relate to your TT list this week. I like how you found things seeming to be "wow cool" in enw eyes, that must feel very good to see things differently. I bet it is inspiring for your writing!
I was away working too the past week and got back yesterday morning...a weird feeling, actually was motivated to do laundry which is very unlike me...then I flopped in bed for the rest of the morning and passed out.
I felt like last night, with boyfriend next to me, was the best sleep I'd had in ages! Even the messy kitchen( um boyfriend!) didn't bother me when I got home...I was like "hello messy kitchen great to see you!) ha ha
Congrats on a trip that gave you many things to think about plus your work. I am a bit weird, I love being in hotel rooms, even alone, I turn into a rock star mentality loud tv and throw my clothes all over the place and light candles and I am crazy about decent hotel bath tubs, true not easy to find, but I love them if I luck out.

YES, Eragon was an AWESOME book. Eldest is almost as good.
I hate the airplane travelling part of trips and it seems like I usually get stuck in front of someone who is a seat-kicker. Grr.

I love travelling and I love eating out but I also love coming home. Glad you had a productive trip.
I do not like elevators! At all! something about the fact that I'm dangling several stories above the ground, suspended by cables....I'll take the stairs!

I hate, hate, hate elevators. And I don't like eating out every meal either. When we go on vacation, I insist on a condo so I can cook (and have a washer and dryer handy).

I'll never understand those people who kick the airplane seat in front of them--particularly the adults.
I like the idea of travel the most. It's has to feel good to get away from the family and even better to come home. Mix a dash of learning and visiting friends in and the trip itself comes out just fine.

The only thing worse than an adult kicking the seat in front of them is a kid who does it and when you ask the child's parent to have the kid stop, they start screaming at you and the kid kicks harder.

I had the pleasure of staying at the King Eddie in Toronto this past weekend and IT'S THE MOST COMFORTABLE BED/BEDDING/PILLOWS IN THE WORLD!
I have NEVER enjoyed a sleep in a hotel until that moment (and I travel a fair bit).

Wylie, I whish I had been there with you. The Radasson doesn't have the best beds. Though they do have free Internet, so it worked out.
Blond Girl, the only advice I can give you is pack light. I made the mistake of brining my big suitcase this time and it suked having to wheel it around. Oh yes, if you don't have a suitcase with wheels, good idea to get one.
